What They Don’t Tell You About Sharing Your Story on Your Own Blog

Here’s what they don’t tell you about sharing your story on your own blog: YOU GOTTA SHARE YOUR STORY.

We all need to take a hiatus every now and then to disconnect and reset. Here’s a quick how-to on sharing your story while technically logged off. Spoiler alert! It’s through the power of your own blog platform.

  1. Write an inventory of blog articles in advance. Draft an inventory of articles for your blog ahead of time before you disconnect, if time permits. You’re probably rolling your eyes at this supposed tip, thinking “yeah right!”. Vacations can oftentimes be unplanned, to say the least. And the time leading up to a planned vacation can be quite hectic. I recall the days leading up to my two-month vacation was absolute madness. From moving to a brand-new place, to preparing my new home for sublease while I was on vacation, I found that time was quite limited. Every night it felt as if I’d jumped forward time zones without even getting on a plane yet. So, I get it! Give yourself grace during this prep period. Do the best you can with what you have. Your best is enough.

  2. Schedule your articles out to release automatically. Select future dates based off your blogging schedule to automatically release your drafted articles. Automation is key. Many blogging platforms include a scheduling option to publish your drafted article at a future date. Keep in mind that the con of scheduling in advance may mean that the content shared will not be real-time. So, choose to write content that has a longer window of relevancy.

  3. Have an assistant (or friend!) manage the distribution. If needed ask for help from your assistant or friend to support your blog distribution. This is especially useful if you do not have full access to the blog-posting platform, will be in significantly different time zones, or may have Wi-Fi connection issues. Check in with your support team regularly to see how it’s going and how you can help them help you.

If I could go back in time, I’d do this exact process above, but here’s what I would do additionally:

  • Document the journey in a journal or via voice recordings. This will help to supplement any video content you may have. Depending on where you are on your video content creation journey, you may find that journal entries may capture more of your emotional state and juicy details of the experience that may not be well conveyed on camera. In any case, it’s great to have both video and written form of your story handy. More is more!

  • Use an AI writing tool to expand upon written content ideas. I recently came across a tool that helps plan high-ranking content to guide blog topics. This solves the two top questions many storytellers have: (1) How can I share my story with more people? And, (2) how can I make my story relevant to those receiving it? We know that storytelling is GOLD as it builds authentic connections, so inserting your stories into your blog is key. You can then use a writing tool like NeuronWriter, to further lead with value.

Remember this: Your story is what adds value to that which can simply be googled.
